Del aeropuerto de Málaga a La Cala de Mijas: taxi, tren y bus, traslado o coche (precios 2026)
Málaga Airport (AGP) to La Cala de Mijas is about 30 to 33 km along the coast, 25 to 35 minutes by road outside rush hour. As of 2026 a metered taxi runs roughly €45 to €65, a pre-booked private transfer €40 to €75 per car, and the train-plus-bus route under €5 per person but closer to two hours. Both our apartments are in La Cala de Mijas, so every guest of ours makes this trip.
The route from Málaga airport to La Cala de Mijas
The free A-7 coastal motorway (signed Cádiz, Algeciras, Marbella) runs from the airport past Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola, and La Cala de Mijas is the next town along. Leave at the exit marked La Cala, near km 201, and you are on the seafront within two minutes.
You will hear about the AP-7 toll road. For La Cala you do not need it. The toll section starts at Fuengirola and its first pay plaza is at Calahonda, west of La Cala. As of 2026 that toll is €5.70 in normal season and €9.25 from June to September, so it only matters if you carry on towards Marbella.
Taxi from the rank: simplest, mid-price
The official taxi rank is directly outside Terminal 3 arrivals (the only arrivals hall), a few metres to the right as you walk out. It runs 24 hours, with cars usually waiting even at 01:00.
Málaga taxis are metered. The 2026 tariff adds a €5.50 airport supplement, with a higher rate from 22:00 to 06:00, at weekends and on holidays. For La Cala that works out at roughly €45 to €65 depending on when you land.
The trade-off: no fixed price and no child seat. For two adults with cabin bags at a civilised hour, it is the least fuss of any option.
Pre-booked private transfer: best for groups and late flights
A private transfer is booked in advance at a fixed price per vehicle; the driver tracks your flight and waits in arrivals with your name on a board. As of 2026 a saloon for up to 4 people costs about €40 to €55, and a 7-seat people carrier with room for luggage about €70 to €75. Child seats are usually free on request.
Six people with golf bags heading to the penthouse in La Cala Golf would need two taxis from the rank; one pre-booked minivan costs less and drops you at the door. The same logic applies to anyone landing after midnight. Do read the cancellation terms.
Train and bus: cheapest, but plan for two hours
Leg 1: Cercanías C-1 train, airport to Fuengirola. The station is underground, a 2 to 3 minute signed walk from arrivals. Trains run roughly every 20 minutes, first departure 05:32, last 23:42, and the ride to Fuengirola (end of the line) takes about 34 minutes. A single ticket is around €2.70 to €2.80 as of 2026, a four-zone fare plus a small one-off charge for the card.
Leg 2: Avanza bus M-220, Fuengirola to La Cala de Mijas. Fuengirola bus station is next to the train station. The M-220 (Fuengirola to Marbella) stops on the main road through La Cala, runs roughly hourly from around 07:00 until midnight, costs under €2 paid to the driver, and takes 20 to 30 minutes.
Total: 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours door to door, for under €5 per person. The honest caveat is luggage: the train is fine with suitcases; the bus has no luggage hold, so two big cases and a pushchair in August is not fun. From the bus stop you may still need a local taxi, especially up to La Cala Golf, 3 km inland.
Hiring a car at the airport
Most major rental companies (Avis, Budget, Sixt, Europcar, Hertz, Goldcar, OK Mobility and others) have desks on the lower floor of Terminal 2, a short walk from arrivals. Off-site firms with a shuttle are often cheaper but add 20 to 40 minutes each way.
Guests at our penthouse in La Cala Golf almost always want one: the three courses, clubhouse and spa are on the doorstep, but the beach, the supermarket and the restaurants of La Cala are a 5-minute drive, and day trips are far easier with wheels.
At the beach apartment, most guests manage without one. La Cala is walkable, and many people hire for just a day mid-week for the Mijas Pueblo trip rather than paying a week of rental and parking.
Book weeks ahead for July and August, check whether the quote includes full insurance, and if you collect after midnight confirm the desk is staffed.

Landing after midnight
Our check-in window is 15:00 to 00:00. If your flight lands late, or could easily slip past midnight, please message us before you fly and we will arrange a late arrival together. It is never a problem when we know in advance.
The last C-1 train leaves the airport at 23:42, so after that it is the taxi rank or a pre-booked transfer. The rank runs all night on the higher tariff, but for a late arrival we recommend a booked transfer: fixed price, a driver tracking your delay, no decisions at 02:00.
Staying nearby
Both of our apartments are in La Cala de Mijas. Apartment Harmony in La Cala Golf is a penthouse sleeping 6 inside the resort, ideal for a golf group or two families arriving by car or minivan transfer. Oasys de Ipanema sleeps 4 a short walk from the beach and the restaurants of La Cala, and works well car-free. Book direct and save 10%, and we will send our transfer notes before you fly.
